Meyer, Unkovic & Scott’s Multiemployer Plans and Employee Benefits Group is an experienced and long-time provider of legal services to private and public sector pension, profit sharing, 401(k), welfare, tax sheltered annuity and deferred compensation plans, with a unique focus on multi-employer plans. Our attorneys address all of the tax, ERISA, securities and labor law issues related to employee benefit plans. We work with employers, plans, fiduciaries, trustees, benefit consulting firms, third party administrators and other service providers.
The Group counsels sponsors on the establishment of plans. Our attorneys regularly advise on legal matters related to plan administration, plan investments and compliance with federal and state laws. We draft simple and workable plan documents, trust agreements and summary plan descriptions based on a thorough understanding of employee benefit plans. The Group assists administrators in establishing administrative procedures and preparing participant forms and notices. We review qualified domestic relations orders and prepare model orders and the required procedures. The Group’s attorneys work with administrators on payment and eligibility issues, including benefit denials and appeals.
The Multiemployer Plans and Employee Benefits Group provides advice on ERISA fiduciary and prohibited transaction matters and counsel on fiduciary insurance coverage issues. The Group assists plan fiduciaries procedurally on the selection of investment managers and consultants and negotiates and prepares investment agreements. We resolve audit issues and negotiate compliance settlements with government agencies. The Group’s attorneys secure advance letters and rulings from governmental agencies and represent plans, sponsors and fiduciaries before governmental agencies and in the courts.
