Welfare Benefit Plans

Our Employment Law & Employee Benefits Group represents numerous health and welfare funds and defined benefit and defined contribution plans ranging in size from 700 participants to funds in excess of 7,000 participants. The firm also represents a pre-paid legal fund, two joint apprenticeship training committees and two scholarship funds. Our representation of these funds has provided us with a wealth of experience in such areas as claims, litigation, breach of fiduciary duty suits, maintaining qualifications of the various plans, and preparing restatements and amendments to the plans.

With respect to the firm’s representation of defined benefits and defined contribution plans, the firm has been involved in the preparation of summary plan descriptions, summaries of material modifications, and matters involving Qualified Domestic Relations Orders.

Through our practice involving health and welfare funds, the firm has been involved with HIPAA compliance issues, COBRA, the FMLA, the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, the Mental Health Parity Act and various other federal statutes involving health and welfare plans.
